_____ walked alongside Canada for something he had planned for the day. After all, it was her birthday, and the man did not want to disappoint her. He knew she was not bad at shooting, meaning this would be perfect. There was that, and he wanted to show America he was not weak as every other country made him out to be. After all, who assisted Britain with the War of 1812, or the Allies during the D-Day Invasion? Besides, He has to brave harsher winters than America does, save when it comes to Alaska. Canada was no fool, though: he realized America was quite possibly the strongest country out there, meaning he was not one to underestimate.

“So, what are we doing, today?” _____ could barely keep her excitement in. She honestly looked forward to the surprise.

“Almost there.” Canada winked as he said that. Normally, he was slightly timid, but this was different. For some reason, confidence filled him more than usual. Perhaps, it was because of his chance at settling the score for the times America picked on him. Either way, this would be one day not some forgotten. At last, they got to the place he had in mind: a paintball field, obstacles and all. Waiting for them were America and Italy, both of whom already got their gear ready.

“Yo, Canada! So, you brought _____ over, bro, huh?”

Canada nodded with a small smile. “Of course, I did! It’s her birthday, after all, so I thought I’d treat her!”

America walked on over to pat the girl on the back. “Really? Well, happy birthday! I knew there was a reason Canada said to get some extra food ready for later in the day!”

Italy, as usual, had his happy little smile on. “I didn’t forget! In fact, I brought some stuff to make pasta~!”

America glanced in Italy’s direction with a shrug. “Well, I was thinking more of a cook-out using the grill, but that works, too! Why not both?”

Canada nodded. “That’s a great idea, guys!” Crossing his arms with a smirk, he added, “Now, about that paintball match, America. I’m ready to show you what I’m made of!”

America laughed heartily at that. “That’s the spirit, bro! But, don’t forget, I’m a hero! I can win this left-handed!”

Canada shook his head in disagreement. “Say that while you still can, America…”

_____ blinked in confusion at what was going on. Was there a reason besides it was her birthday that she was invited to play some paintball? She glanced in Italy’s direction, he in her direction, before they both shrugged and mentally told themselves to just roll with it. Besides, Italy had something to prove, as well. He wanted to show that he did not always require Germany to back him up. And this time, he was not going to wave the white flag he typically had handy.

The four of them were not alone, though: some people from where the three countries live came, as well. From America’s neighborhood came Indiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi. From Italy’s neighborhood came Sicily, Basilicata, and Veneto. Canada brought six relatives of his, which even the odds. They were Quebec, Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, Newfoundland, and Yukon. The teams were even, America and Italy on one side, Canada and _____ on the other.

Canada decided to have Quebec, Ontario, and Newfoundland get in front of himself and the rest of the team, with Alberta as a sort of sniper. Waiting until the opponents came, Alberta shot a paintball at Sicily, the ball splatting on him to indicate he was out. Despite one of his own relatives being the first to go down, Italy performed well beyond anyone’s expectations. He was no pushover, this time, having shot paintballs onto Yukon while ducking behind cover in time whenever shot at. America personally shot paintballs onto Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. Indiana and Tenessee held their own for a while, but _____ eventually managed to shoot the paintballs at them and hit them, despite the difficulty. Canada’s paintballs hit Basilicata and Veneto.

Since that Indiana and Tennessee cooperatively took out Alberta and Newfoundland before being shot and out, themselves, it was now a two on two between the red team (Canada and _____) and the Blue Team (America and Italy). _____ focused on Italy while the two brothers had at each other.

Italy nearly shot ____ multiple times while using his physique to quickly run from cover to cover.  However, _____ caught on to the pattern and waited patiently for the right moment before shooting. The paintball hit him right in the middle of the pads covering his torso. Not that it mattered to Italy: made it this far, which proved he could hold his own. He simply walked into the “out” area with an adorable smile on his face.

Meanwhile, Canada and America still could not hit one another. Neither of them were holding back.  They both nearly got each other at various points in their personal face off. With each passing moment, the two brothers got increasingly frustrated at the fact it has dragged out for so long. _____ simply watched from a safe area and waited to see if she would be needed, since she was not as athletic as America or Canada.  In the meantime, she wondered if she could get in one last shot, so she kept her paintball rifle at the ready. Finally, both Canada and America have had it and decided to just get it over with then and there, leaving themselves open to each other’s shots. _____ rather figured it would boil down to that, so she shot at America the same time both he and Canada shot at each other. Everyone’s shots hit, which meant that while Canada was out, America was, as well, thus Canada and _____’s team won.

Once at America’s place, the two brothers simply laughed at what just happened. They may get on each other’s nerves, but that is what brothers are for. Italy got to work on the pasta while America grilled outside. _____ chatted with friends of hers that came to celebrate her birthday with her. She received plenty of presents, too. America’s present to her was a new paintball rifle, which could reload quickly. Canada’s present to _____, other than the paintball match, was a set of Gumi and Len dolls (Japan’s idea, and he was the one who provided them). As for Italy’s present, he not only gave _____ a surprisingly realistic painting of her and the countries hanging out, but also tickled her on the belly. She responded with a blink of shock before running, and then rolled on the floor laughing.
This is actually a birthday gift for :iconhidding-in-sight: that I had an idea for and finished today (whicdh is her birthday). She and I are great friends, even though she and I live in two different countries (she lives in Canada, and I live in the United States). I know Canada and Italy may have gotten a little out of character, but I think it still fits with how they may eventually end up like (at least, in my interpretations). I hope she likes this.

Happy Birthday, Marie!

I can't wipe away the stupid grin on my face at having my province play paintball.
